Wayfinding and Landscape Infrastructure
Northern Arizona University • Flagstaff, AZ
This phased project consisted of two key elements. The first included the construction and installation of entryways and wayfinding signage for traffic, buildings, public space, pedestrian walkways, and parking. Incorporating the university’s refined colors and logo, the wayfinding signage unifies the 700-plus-acre campus with consistent and clearly defined signage throughout. The 125 sign locations required extensive underground utility investigation for the digging of frost-line depth foundations. The project’s second and equally important aspect included landscape improvements to various locations on campus, most notably the entranceway at McConnell Drive near I-17. Creating a “sense of arrival” to NAU’s campus, this entryway has a large, curved sandstone wall and pylons near Pine Knoll.
