New Distance Learning Facility

Northern Arizona University • Flagstaff, Arizona

This project consists of new construction and renovations to the existing Communications building on NAU’s central campus. The new construction — a three-story, steel structure with a stone and aluminum panel mix on the exterior skin — connects to the existing building. This new building will have classrooms, faculty offices, and a new television studio.

Renovations to the existing building will address the office areas and Master Control Room for the existing television studios. New chilled water lines and a steam-line tunnel will be brought to the building from existing campus utilities. The existing road will be removed and a new road will be built while maintaining bus and pedestrian traffic. This LEED building will incorporate a solar wall and a green-screen wall.

Size: 24,812 square feet (new) / 9,420 square feet (renovations)
KCS Role: CMAR
Architect: Burns Wald-Hopkins Shambach Architects
